National College of Natural Medicine’s Helfgott Research Institute is a professional independent, non-profit research institute located in SW Portland, whose mission is to conduct rigorous, high quality, research on the art and science of healing, specifically working to understand natural forms of medicine. At Helfgott, scientists from the fields of naturopathic medicine, Chinese medicine, immunology, and nutrition apply their expertise to the study of natural medicine. Studies may look at alternative medical systems as a whole or may focus on specific therapies.
Established in June of 2003 with the help of a donation from Don Helfgott, NCNM’s Helfgott Research Institute has a state-of-the-art basic science laboratory, as well as the resources to carry out clinical research.
NCNM and the Helfgott Research Institute participate in collaborative grants with Oregon Health & Sciences University and other biomedical and naturopathic schools, and are also the training grounds for new researchers in the Master of Science in Integrative Medicine Research program.
Current research studies seeking participants include: A natural supplement for high blood pressure
NCNM is conducting a research study to assess the safety and tolerability of an over-the-counter natural heart health supplement in adults with borderline to mildly high blood pressure.
